Ask Harvey

Dear Harvey,

I am lactose intolerant and I enjoy Soy products. Was wondering what was your take on Soy milks and foods like these? What sort of milk substitutes are good?-SL

Hi SL,

I’m a huge fan of nut milks, especially when fresh, not pasteurized.  But even pasteurized they are better than cow’s milk.

I am not a fan of soy milk at all. Most all Soybeans are genetically modified (GMO).  Studies done with laboratory animals have been devastating; resulting in significantly stunted growth and sterility.  Secondly, the Soybean plant is what is referred to as a scavenger plant.  In other words it attracts impurities in the soil into the plant.  Genetically Modified Soy is chemically altered to be able to withstand being saturated by a veritable deluge of pesticides and herbicides and still not die.  Eating Soy products is like having a chemical cocktail!

All the best,

Harvey
