The human body has been designed to be nourished simply by eating food. But nowadays, finding ‘food worth eating’ has become a complex task as the quality of our food spirals lower with each passing year. Look at the following reports: US and UK government statistics indicate that levels of trace minerals in fruits and vegetables fell by up to 76% between 1940 and 1991 … so mathematically, you eat one apple and get the nutritional value of less than a quarter of an apple!
In contrast there is growing evidence that organic fruit and vegetables generally contain more nutrients than non-organic food. The Soil Association conducted a systematic review of the evidence comparing the vitamin and mineral content of organic and conventionally grown food. An independent review of the evidence found that organic crops had significantly higher levels of all 21 nutrients analyzed compared with conventional produce. The levels were 14-27% higher. So that brings organic food to the level of conventional food in the 1970’s of around 50%, now you have about half an apple. The question is can you be healthy eating food reduced in nutritional value by 50-76%? It has been shown in one study at Paignton Zoo, in Devon England where a group of people were fed a mostly raw diet of fruits, vegetables, nuts, fish and honey, that to get the nutritional value your body needs to become healthy at today’s conventional rates you would have to consume 11 pounds per day of these foods.

To help us make up for the need to eat the estimated 11 pounds of fruits, vegetables etc. to get the nutrition we need. Caution should be mentioned at this point, research indicates that synthetic vitamins may actually cause nutritional deficiencies. When you take a synthetic vitamin it needs the co-factors typically found in the whole food to complete its actions. If these co-factors are not in the foods you eat, the synthetic vitamin will actually draw it from your body. You may feel good for awhile but when the co-factors run out, you will begin to feel worse. The prolonged effect of the synthetic vitamins imitates the action of drugs; they tax rather than feed your body. Always be sure to look for whole food supplements which will contain all the co-factors needed to utilize the vitamins in your body like LifeGreens … you can read about it at: http://www.vpnutrition.com/product_info.php/products_id/31.
