The human body has been designed to be nourished simply by eating food. But nowadays, finding ‘food worth eating’ has become a complex task as the quality of our food spirals lower with each passing year. Look at the following reports: US and UK government statistics indicate that levels of trace minerals in fruits and vegetables fell by up to 76% between 1940 and 1991 … so mathematically, you eat one apple and get the nutritional value of less than a quarter of an apple!
In contrast there is growing evidence that organic fruit and vegetables generally contain more nutrients than non-organic food. The Soil Association conducted a systematic review of the evidence comparing the vitamin and mineral content of organic and conventionally grown food. An independent review of the evidence found that organic crops had significantly higher levels of all 21 nutrients analyzed compared with conventional produce. The levels were 14-27% higher. So that brings organic food to the level of conventional food in the 1970’s of around 50%, now you have about half an apple. The question is can you be healthy eating food reduced in nutritional value by 50-76%? It has been shown in one study at Paignton Zoo, in Devon England where a group of people were fed a mostly raw diet of fruits, vegetables, nuts, fish and honey, that to get the nutritional value your body needs to become healthy at today’s conventional rates you would have to consume 11 pounds per day of these foods.
Enter nutritional whole food supplements
To help us make up for the need to eat the estimated 11 pounds of fruits, vegetables etc. to get the nutrition we need. Caution should be mentioned at this point, research indicates that synthetic vitamins may actually cause nutritional deficiencies. When you take a synthetic vitamin it needs the co-factors typically found in the whole food to complete its actions. If these co-factors are not in the foods you eat, the synthetic vitamin will actually draw it from your body. You may feel good for awhile but when the co-factors run out, you will begin to feel worse. The prolonged effect of the synthetic vitamins imitates the action of drugs; they tax rather than feed your body. Always be sure to look for whole food supplements which will contain all the co-factors needed to utilize the vitamins in your body like LifeGreens … you can read about it at: http://www.vpnutrition.com/product_info.php/products_id/31. What causes Allergies? Here it comes again allergy season, the itchy watery eyes, sneezing, runny nose, congestion and sore throat. What causes allergies and is there anything we can do naturally to lessen the distress? Allergies occur due to an abnormal reaction by our immune system to something that would normally be harmless like pollen dust, pet hair or dander. The immune cells become overly sensitive and react to these substances like invaders. Histamine is an important protein used by the body as a natural defense mechanism; it is released into the bloodstream in an effort to expel allergens through coughing, sneezing, nose blowing and watery eyes.
There is a strong connection between allergies and reduced digestive enzymes. Some believe that incompletely digested protein molecules are the culprit. Still it is not fully understood why some develop allergies and others do not. Although allergies can occur at any stage of life, they are thought to be hereditary and most common in childhood. A growing number of previously allergy-free individuals are developing the problem later in life. Which have led some to believe that a lack of digestive enzymes may be the culprit.
Natural help for allergy suffers. Nutritional supplements that have seemed to work for some individuals are noted in this blog. Enzymes are unlike over the counter medications that mask the symptoms and leave you drowsy and unable to concentrate.
With these in your arsenal perhaps allergy season can be less of a nuisance if not a thing of the past–GB
Research says boiling broccoli can ruin its anti-cancer properties
Researchers Professor Paul Thornalley from Warwick Medical School at the University of Warwick and Dr. Lijiang Song from the University’s Department of Chemistry bought brassica vegetables, (broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and green cabbage) fresh from a local store, boiled them up in their a lab within 30 minutes of purchasing. Boiling appeared to have a serious impact on the retention of the important glucosinolate within the vegetables. They found that the loss of total glucosinolate content after boiling for 30 minutes was: broccoli 77%, brussels sprouts 58%, cauliflower 75%, and green cabbage 65%.
Sulforaphane Glucosinolate activates the body’s natural enzymes for detoxification and those with antioxidant properties, protecting cells from harmful free radical damage. This can help with colon and prostate health and contribute to improved immune system, cardiovascular protection and health.
There is a product that will give you the benefits that are found in broccoli in extract form. The nice thing about this is that you can be sure that you are getting these compounds in beneficial amounts. The product is called Life BroccoZyme. It contains 60 mg of Sulforaphane Glucosinolate along with 600 mg of broccoli seed extract in every capsule.
In view of the studies that show the benefits of these compounds found in such vegetables as broccoli, can you afford not to look more into this in your quest for good health? Check the VPNutrition website for more information www.vpnutrition.com/Life BroccoZyme.

Can Broccoli help with my lungs?
The “BBC News Website” had an article regarding a study showing a benefit of a substance found in Broccoli and its protective effect for the lungs! They reported that US scientists found “sulforaphane increases the activity of the NRF2 gene in human lung cells which protects the cells from damage caused by toxins.” The same broccoli compound was recently found to be protective against damage to blood vessels caused by diabetes.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is often caused by smoking and kills about 30,000 UK residents a year.
In the latest study, a team from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine found “significantly lower activity of the NRF2 gene in smokers with advanced COPD.”
Research suggests that sulforaphane may limit the damage which leads to serious lung disease.
There is a broccoli extract in capsule form that contains 60 mg of the compound sulforaphane along with 600 mg of Broccoli seed extract. In view of this study, it could prove beneficial to take this supplement as part of your a daily health regimen. It’s called BroccoZyme. What better way to get the beneficial compounds from Broccoli in an easy to take capsule form! For more information on this product just click on this link: www.vpnutrition.com

Study finds Broccoli may Help Boost Aging Immune System
This was the title of an article by Rachel Champeau on the “UCLA Website” about a study on the benefits of cruciferous vegetables. UCLA researchers found that a chemical in Broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables may hold a key to restoring the body’s immunity, which declines as we age.
The study’s findings show that Sulforaphane, a chemical in Broccoli, switches on a set of anti-oxidant genes and enzymes in specific immune cells which then combat the injurious effects of molecules known as free radicals that can damage cells and lead to disease.
Dr. Andre Nel, the study’s principal investigator and chief of Nanomedicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA said; “Our defense against oxidative stress damage may determine at what rate we age, how it will manifest and how to interfere in those processes. In particular, our study shows that a chemical present in broccoli is capable of stimulating a wide range of antioxidant defense pathways and may be able to interfere with the age-related decline in immune function.”
Doctor Nel also stated; “This is a radical new way of thinking in how to increase the immune function of elderly people to possibly protect against viral infections and cancer.”
How can you get therapeutic benefits from the chemical Sulforaphane without having to eat Broccoli every day? A Broccoli-based supplement which contains large amounts of Sulforaphane is what you need! It’s called Life BroccoZyme and you can find this product along with additional information at www.vpnutrition.com
Each capsule yields 60 mg of sulforaphane, according to the above study, may benefit us as we age. Along with its Sulforaphane content, each capsule also contains 600 mg of Broccoli seed extract.
